Medications like Diabetics Treatment, Underactive Thyroid, Steroid Treatments, Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), Obesity etc.

How to control  weight gain from medication for a special purpose?

Weight gain is a common side effect for people who take insulin to manage their diabetes. Insulin helps to control your blood sugar level. Some people with longstanding diabetes tend to eat more than they need to prevent low blood sugar, also known as a “hypo”. Control is only possible by first identifying which type of Diabetes condition you have and going for a specific course then. Ex.type 1 Diabetes has courses like DESMOND and for type 2 there are courses like DAFNE etc.

Underactive Thyroid doesn’t play a major role in weight gain as believed. This condition just means that your body is not producing enough thyroid hormones, which play a central role in regulating your metabolism. So again the answer is food habits and exercise can help. Or using daily hormone-replacement tablets, called levothyroxine.

Steroid treatments are used to treat conditions like asthma, arthritis etc using steroids like corticosteroid. Such steroids tend to increase your appetite in the longer run. The only solution is to watch your diet.

Women with PCOS typically put on weight around their waist. The more weight you put on, the more insulin you produce, which can cause further weight gain. Weight loss through dietary changes and exercise, and in some cases medication such as orlistat will help.

People with Obesity finds it really tough to lose weight. Probable solutions advised by all are surgery. But we have seen cases where the client was so much motivated to lose that they forcefully and religiously followed healthy lifestyle and exercise routine that within a year or more they started seeing the difference.

10) Fluid retention causes Weight Gain

It’s not always fat that add on to weight but also the weight of water/fluid inside your body. Familiar to most women from premenstrual symptoms. If you push a fingertip into your skin and it leaves a real indentation rather than springing back, that’s a tip-off that it’s fluid, not fat. Other symptoms include

  • Shortness of breath (congestive heart disease)
  • Decreased urine output
  • Loss of appetite (kidney failure)
  • Fatigue
  • Increased abdominal girth even without weight gain, for both. Liver disease and certain cancers can cause abnormal fluid accumulation in the abdomen as well.
