AIDS, the Acquired Immuno deficiency Syndrome is not transmitted from parents to offspring but is caused bya virus known as HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). HIV from an infected person can pass to a normal person through blood contact generally during unprotected sex with infected person.
How is HIV transmitted?
- Sharing needles or syringes contaminated with small quantity of blood from HIV positive person.
- Blood contact from unprotected sex.
- Infected mother to their child during pregnancy,delivery or breast feeding.
- Spreading of HIV includes transmission from men to men, women to women, men to women or women to men during any type of vaginal, anal or oral sex.
However, HIV doesn’t spread through- tears, sweat, urine, faeces or saliva during normal kissing. It also does not spread through by sharing utensils, towels, clothing, toilets seats or insect bite like that of mosquito or bed bug.
According to the latest research about 50 million people are having HIV/AIDS infection all over the world and 60% are from the Sub Sahara Africa. HIV /AIDS has been recognized as the 4th biggest reason of the death rate.
It is also assumed that AIDS is a man made widely prevalent disease produced by genetically engineered laboratory produced virus. Death do not occur by merely having AIDS. The deaths happens due to infectious causes by the other diseases by the feebleness of immune system. HIV destroys or disables these cells as a result of which various types of infectious diseases due to microbial invasion occurs. Even dangerous diseases like cancer can easily target in HIV infected person. Consumption of alcohol results in increasing the chances to get infected and progression of AIDS.

Preventions from AIDS
- The most important step towards the protection from AIDS is to avoid sexual transmission with HIV infected person.
- Avoid getting in contact with the blood of any infected individual.
- Using condoms will not 100% eliminate but reduce the danger of getting infected with AIDS.
- Do not share any needles or syringes if you are in a habit of consuming illegal drugs.
- Do not use things like razors or brushes which can be contaminated from blood.
- Those females who are infected with HIV should avoid the stage of pregnancy.
- Consult your doctor as early as possible when you feel any symptom of HIV.
