Avoid standing for too long when pregnant
A recent research has found that standing for long hours during pregnancy can cause harm to the health of mother as well as to the growth of the foetus. Researches which were done previously revealed that working for late hours might increase the risk of pregnancy such as birth defect, still birth, premature birth or low birth weight.

The research was performed on 4680 mothers and the growth and the development of their foetus were monitored. The researchers assessed the pregnancy condition of those women between the year 2002 and 2006.The women during this time period were asked about their activities when they are at their job such as if they stand for long period of time or walk long distances.
About 38.5% of women were found standing for long hours on their feet at their job and 45.5% of the women walk long distances. Also, they use to loft heavy stuff where they work and 4% of the women work night shifts as well.
The growth and the health of the babies of these women was regularly monitored and checked through ultrasound and also after their babies were born. The researchers concluded that working for long hours is not at all linked with premature birth or other similar birth defects. But in cases where women stand for long time period in jobs such as teaching or sales gave birth to babies whose average head size were of 1 cm which is 3% smaller than normal babies, thus resulting slow growth rate.
The researchers also commented that working women have less pregnancy complications and birth defects risks compared to unemployed women. But there are certain features of work that cannot be avoided and can produce risk to the health of both the mother and the baby.Occupational and Environmental Medicine published this research.
