Myocardial Infarction, its symptoms and causes
Myocardial Infarction occurs when the blood supply to the heart is blocked. Myocardial infarction is a synonym to heart attack. The reduced supply of blood lowers the oxygen in the heart and causes damage and death of the tissues of the heart.According to the survey, about 11% of the death in Canada are caused due to Myocardial Infarction.Chest pain is the most common symptom to heart attack.
Symptoms of Myocardial Infarction:
There is a sudden feeling of tightening of the chest during the heart attack. The person feels burning, squeezing, and pressurized sensations in the chest. In more serious cases theses sensation spreads effecting the jaw, neck, arms and shoulders. The pain in the chest can be felt for 30 minutes or may be longer in crucial cases.Other symptoms include-
1)Vomiting, abdomen pain, and nausea.
2)Faintness, weakness and dizziness.
3)Breathlessness.
4)The heart beat increases very fast.
5)Sweating and anxiety.
6) Light-headedness and blurred vision.
If you are a woman then it is not necessary you feel the chest pain, it could be shortness of breath or you feel none of the symptoms mentioned above.
Causes of Myocardial Infarction:
Coronary artery disease is the major cause behind the Myocardial Infarction.Atheromatous plaques starts appearing on the walls of the coronary arteries resulting in the development of coronary heart diseases.Stress worsens the plaque inside the heart and restricts the blood flow in the heart.
Another cause to Myocardial Infarction are the formation of blood clots.Blood clots totally stops the flow of blood to your heart.Smoking, high fat diet, high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes mellitus damage the arteries and causes myocardial infarction.
In some cases, heart spasm occurs in which the arteries muscles suddenly contracts thus restricting the healthy flow of blood and causes heart attack.
