Obese women have high risk of vein clotting
A new research has revealed that overweight and middle age obese women have high risk of developing incurable blood clots in the veins of the leg compared to women who have normal weight. The risk of developing clots increases after surgery in obese women.
The research consisting of about 1 million UK women confirms the fact that women who are overweight or suffer from obesity have high risk of Venous Thromboembolism(blood clots in veins of leg). The problem may worsen and can be deadly if clot breaks down and move towards the lungs causing pulmonary embolism.
.Lianne Parkin, the researcher who led the study says that the research examine these women for the time period of about 6 years. The results of the research confirmed that women who are overweight have potentially higher risk of Venous Thromboembolism compared to women who maintains normal and healthy weight.
The postoperative VTE is also higher in women who carries extra pounds in their body.Out of 641000 women who gone through at least one operation during the research period about 6438 women were admitted to hospitals and died from VTE where 1900 develops clot within the 12 week after operation.
