In the journal of American Medical Association published recently the list of foods which are meant to be healthy for high cholesterol people.People with high cholesterol are advised to reduce intake of foods consisting of high rate of cholesterol such as butter, red meat,cholesterol rich eggs, and ice cream.
Researchers have found that eating foods such as soy protein, nuts and other fiber rich items results in causes reduction in LDL cholesterol instead of avoiding high fat eggs, meat and other dairy products.
Cyril Kendall,a scientist at the University of Toronto says “Doctors always keep telling the patient what to avoid instead of what to add.” The study consisting of 345 patients was divided between two groups one was kept on dietary foods such as barley, soy milk,tofu,legumes, nuts and oats and other group was given low fat foods such as whole grain cereals, fruits, vegetables and low fat dairy products.
The first one shows remarkable decrease in LDL cholesterol of about 14 percent while on the other hand another group shows only 3 percent of reduction in their cholesterol levels.
It was advised to eat 1.5 ounces of nuts per day including 8 ounces glass of orange juice , a teaspoon of margarine and a cup of yogurt.Fiber rich foods are also healthy including foods such as legumes, oats , barley and cereals containing psyllium.
