A women during pregnancy needs to produce more red blood cells,so as to share with the fetus,as compared to those women who are not pregnant.
To produce this extra blood pregnant women needs to take care of her diet especially in the case of iron intake.. Otherwise it could lead to iron deficiency anemia.
Some of the risk factors that could increase a pregnant woman’s chances of having anemia are:
-Insufficient Dietary Iron.
-Vomiting because of morning sickness
-Heavy menstrual bleeding
-Becoming pregnant during teen years
-Loss of blood on injury or surgery.
These risks have been proposed by The American Academy of Family Physicians.
