Skin cancer is more common in men than women
A new study has revealed that males are more prone to skin cancer as compared to females. The reason behind the cancer risk is the decrease in the level of necessary skin antioxidant in men.
The research was done in Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center which found that the male mice had high level of cancer linked cells and the absence of an important skin antioxidant.
A protein called Catalase which prevents skin cancer by protecting the cells from ultraviolet-B light, which causes sunburn and damages to the skin. The researchers said that the findings showed that women have the antioxidant naturally present in their skin which protects them from deadly skin cancer disease.
Men are more prone to cancers in their life. The inflammatory cells related to these disorders are found in men at high level than in women. The research was published in the journal Investigative Dermatology.
