Arthritis increases heart attack risk

A new research has revealed that people suffering from arthritis are at higher risk of developing heart diseases.They are at 40% higher risk of developing  frequent heart attacks that could lead to death in some cases.The inflammation in the joint of people suffering from arthritis results in inconsistent heart beat that causes atrial fibrillation, forming blood clots and increasing the risk of strokes. 

Rheumatoid arthritis generally occurs between the age of 40-70 years of age.Arthritis effect women more, compared to men globally.Rheumatoid arthritis is caused due to the abnormal functioning of immune system.The cells lining the joint swell up making them firm and painful.

Atrial fibrillation is the condition in which the heart loses its power to pump blood and results in irregular and erratic heart beat.

The research was done in Copenhagen University where researchers studied the health condition of more then 4 million people over the period of 5 years.Out of 4 million people 18,250 people suffer from rheumatoid arthritis.The study showed that the people suffering from arthritis are at 40% higher risk of developing atrial fibrillation and 30% more risk of developing strokes.

Researcher Micheal Ehrenstein, who led the study said that Inflammation of joint is the main symptom of rheumatoid arthritis, that effect the normal functioning of other related organs in the body, especially effecting the heart beat which leads to stroke and severe heart attacks.
