A compound called serotonin is released by the brain which regulates the emotions and mood of the person.It helps person to be calm and relaxed .But at times when serotonin is not released in appropriate amount it causes chemical imbalance in the body and the person feels anxiety automatically.

In certain situations anxiety disorder can be self treated successfully if the person really wants to get out of it.There are anxiety attacks which are of short duration which goes off by itself after some time.Such as if you are preparing yourself for any public performance, job interview or final exam.You can try following actions to make yourself relaxed and calm:
- Meditate for sometime, relax your mind.
- Watch TV or any of your favorite movie
- Talk and discuss to any supportive person.
- Take a warm bath.
- Deep breath exercise.
Certain herbs such as kava kava, lemon balm,valerian and passion flower are very helpful in reducing the anxiety as it calms the nerves and cure insomnia as well. Pranayam and breathing exercises provide relief to mind and body.
