Common causes of missed period

A missed period can be the sign of pregnancy, but if you are not expecting a baby then what would be the possible reason for missing the regular monthly date.Pregnancy is not only the cause for missed period, there may be many other reasons for the irregularity.Main reason for missed period is the unhealthy diet where your body do not get the appropriate amount of nutrients, thus leading to a disbalance in the hormones causing irregular periods or even no periods at a point of time.

Common causes for missed periods:

  • Stress

Stress is one of the most common cause of missed period.It delays the monthly date.It happens because you may be under stress at the time when your body is ovulating.Since the ovulation is delayed, you period is obviously delayed which is schedule to come 14 days later.So, find time to relax and be calm.Do whatever makes you happy and de-stress your mind.

  • Overweight

Obesity or overweight causes problem in the menstrual cycle.Ovaries are meant to produce estrogen hormone.Body fat also produces estrogen.A woman who is overweight produces estrogen in excess amount.There are 2 hormones which maintains a healthy menstrual cycle- progesterone and estrogen.Estrogen works in the first half of menstrual cycle and trigger the process of ovulation.If the estrogen level increases in the body it will lead to improper ovulation thus making the menstrual cycle irregular and unpredictable.

  • Eating disorder

Healthy eating maintains a good balance in the functioning of all organs of the body.Eating unhealthy or not eating the right kind of food may cause irregularity in the menstrual cycle.The body is unable to produce the proper amount of estrogen hormones, if it lacks in fat and same is the case when the body has extra amount of fat it disturbs the balance of estrogen level in the body.So, it is important that you keep a check on the kind of food you eat, so that you should not face the problem of missed period.

  • Birth control pills

The menstrual cycle is also badly effected by the birth control pills.The use of birth control pills is very common.Women use them either to control their menstrual cycle  or to have lighter periods. Birth control pills may have side effect which could delay the duration of your period.

  • Excessive exercise-

Women who are used to do excessive exercise may suffer from missed periods.Generally , women who practice  ballet or gymnasts have higher risk of missing their monthly periods.

  • Thyroid problem

Women who are suffering from thyroid often experiences missed period.Thyroid prevents the production of prolactin in the body which is plays an important part in ovulation.
