UTI in children ; causes & treatment

Urinary tract infection in children is a common problem now a days. Approximately one percent of children under five years of age suffer from this disease.

According to the age and condition of disease there can be different symptoms in children.

  • In newborns

  2. Baby start loosing weight
  3. They become irritable
  4. Symptoms of fever
  5. Problem of jaundice and hypothermia

Even if there are  symptoms of  UTI then also it is very important to go for a “Urine routine microscopic and culture test”.


After seven days of antibiotic medication, this disease is usually cured. In certain cases injections can also be given to the patient.

About 10% children go for dialysis due to a disease known as Obstructive Uropathy. In the same way 30% children suffering from chronic kidney disease are more effected to UTI. Due to Vesicoureteric reflux 25% children are prone to urinary tract infections. UTI is common in 25% children in the world.
