Tips to reduce chronic pain and stress

The mental stress and chronic pain in women suffering from fibromyalgia can be reduces by practicing yoga twice a week for eight weeks regularly.A study has revealed that yoga effects the hormone cortisol in women suffering from fibromyalgia.

Women with fibromyalgia experience fatigue and chronic pain and,other symptoms like depression, sleep disturbances and muscle stiffness.Earlier researches has shown that women with fibromyalgia have lower than average cortisol level that causes fatigue, pain and stress sensitivity.

Patients with fibromyalgia are suggested to do hatha yoga twice a week.Hatha yoga reduces stress and pain and acts as a mental boost  for doing daily activities.

Kathryn Curtis, a Phd student at York University in Canada said “Ideally, cortisol level peak about 30-40 minutes after we get up in the morning and decline throughout the day until we are ready to go to sleep.”

“The secretion of the hormone cortisol is dysregulated in women with fibromyalgia” ,she added.

The study was published in the Journal of Pain Research which says that people who practice yoga regularly showed remarkable improvement in their symptoms.
