Dementia, which means madness, is a serious disease which a person faces through normal aging.Dementia is a non-specific illness syndrome in which the areas affected are memory, attention, & solving problem. It is caused by the loss of cognitive ability to a pre unimpaired person. It is further divided as reversible or irreversible, depending upon the condition of the patient.
Dementia patients are normally prescribed with “chemical cosh” i.e. anti psychotic drugs. These patients can be treated more effectively with just simple painkillers, researchers from The British and Norwegian study, published it on the BMJ website.
Researchers even say that every year more than 100,000 patients are given these drugs.
These drugs make patients feel dizzy and if taken for a longer period could even cause stroke or even death..
After studding Doctors reported that patients with dementia were less agitated and aggressive after taking painkillers, instead of anti-psychotic drugs.
