Meditation reduces pain sensations

A new study has shown that an hour of meditation powerfully reduces pain sensations.Meditation remarkably reduces the intensity and effects of pain in an individual’s mind.

The researcher Fadel Zeidan, who headed the study said that an hour meditationĀ  training reduces the feel of pain related brain activation.

Meditation shows greater reduction in pain compared to pain relieving drugs,reducing the pain sensation by 25 percent.The study was performed in a group of healthy people who never meditated but attendedĀ  20 minutes session to learn the meditation techniques.

Focused attention is a sort of meditation in which people learn to focus on their breadth and let go of all the distractions and emotions.

The brain activity of these people were measured, before and after the focused attention technique of mediation, using a special type of Arterial Spin Labeling Magnetic Resonance Imaging, which captures the brain processes.

The scans examined after the mediating session reveledĀ  11-93% a significant reduction in level of pain of the participants.
